Project CORRE
Project CORRE stands for Cyber Outreach Risk-Reduction Education and was created to provide education, information and referrals to people who use the Internet. Using websites, chat rooms and social networking sites, Project CORRE specifically helps to address the HIV/STD prevention needs of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM) engaging in sexual practices with sex partners met through the Internet.
Legacy’s trained Cyber Health Educators provide prevention education and risk reduction counseling, referrals and support to gay, bisexual, and other MSM who use the Internet. These Cyber Health Educators also promote health and wellness by encouraging positive health-seeking behaviors, including getting tested for STDs and HIV, getting vaccinated for Hepatitis C, and accessing primary care services for illnesses.
The Internet allows the Cyber Health Educator to answer questions that some men might feel reluctant to discuss in a face-to-face HIV counseling session, at a community outreach site or other place where Legacy provides services.
You can easily contact one of the Cyber Health Educators by emailing your question to
projectcorre@gmail.com
.
This innovative program was created at Legacy and has served as a model program in both the U.S. and Canada. Many organizations across both countries have adapted this program for their community. Project CORRE was also used in the development of the National Guidelines for Internet-based STD and HIV Prevention: Accessing the Power of the Internet for Public Health.
