Legacy Commemorates Transgender Lives by Lighting Building on Sunday, November 20th

By: Russell Etherton, Community Relations Manager

Each year on November 20th, people across the country honor the memory of those who lives were lost in acts of violence on a day known as Transgender Day of Remembrance.  From its inception, organizations and advocates have used this day to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people, and address the issues the community faces.

This year marks the second year that Legacy Community Health has participated in Transgender Awareness and the Day of Remembrance.  Over the course of this week we’ve hosted a number of events aimed at taking action and bringing attention to the transgender community by educating our staff and facilitating an open dialogue for others.  This weekend we will light the façade of  the Legacy Montrose clinic as a public display of awareness and participation.

It is small actions taken by a lots of people that help raise the awareness around issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender and gender non-conforming people face in Houston today.  Join the conversation at #TransWeek or #TDOR.
