G. Scott Sawyer, M.D., founded the Montrose Clinic’s Vision Services department in 1995, before the organization was known as Legacy Community Health Services.
He began working at Legacy on a full-time basis in February of 2007.
Dr. Sawyer earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University. He attended medical school, completed his medical internship, and finished his ophthalmology residency all at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He completed his training there in 1989. Prior to starting at Legacy, Dr. Sawyer worked at Central Georgia Eye Center in Macon, Georgia. He opened a solo practice after moving to Houston in 1991, a venture that lasted until 1999 when he joined Coastal Eye Associates.
Dr. Sawyer has served on the Boards of Directors of numerous HIV-related organizations, and was Chairman of the Board for the Assistance Fund for three years. He has presented posters at two World AIDS Conferences.
Dr. Sawyer enjoys traveling, relaxing in Galveston, and playing with his two Boston terriers, Beau and Sasha.
