MSociety is dedicated to building a safe, affirming, and healthy community that empowers young gay men of color, ages 18 – 29 in Houston. MSociety began in 2011 with its own drop-in community center which is a safe space that helps these young men to connect, develop strengths and skills, support each other, have fun and achieve positive goals. MSociety is distinguished by the active leadership and involvement of the members. Members play an intricate role in planning activities, special events, and design of the space. Examples include movie nights, discussions, cookouts, card games, parties, balls, community forums and more. MSociety provides access to HIV testing and STD screening at on and off-site locations. Members are provided linkage to primary care, HIV/STD treatment, mental health and other health care services. MSociety is strengthened by an established network of collaborators and partners to assist in promoting solidarity, well-being among its members.

Activities

• mMen Mission-is a dedicated group of 12 young gay men of color who represent their community and are responsible for planning events, collaborating with local agencies, and ensuring success by addressing the needs of our community.
• mGroups are fun social discussion forums that offer topics relevant to young, gay and bisexual men. Topics include: meeting guys, dating, communication, safer sex and sexuality. These meetings are held at Bi-weekly. Check out the calendar, Facebook or contact us to find out about the next meeting.
• Free Rapid HIV, Hepatitis C and Syphilis Testing is provided at on and off-site locations. MSociety also offers Couples HIV Counseling and Testing because getting tested and receiving your results together can start a conversation between you and your partner(s) about HIV and how to keep your relationship healthy.
• Community Outreach and Education — volunteers from Msociety visit bars and clubs in Montrose to distribute safer sex kits and recruit new members. This is Msociety’s way of interacting with the community and promoting the program.
