Legacy Community Health, one of Texas’ largest community health systems, wins a Disney Be Inspired Grant for its Legacy’s Little Readers program, which has provided 47,000 books at no cost to the health center’s pediatric patients. The Little Readers program is in partnership with H-E-B and the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation. The $500 grant was awarded to Legacy on behalf of Emily Wang, a 17-year-old student volunteer.

Legacy Community Health is proud to be a partner of Southern Smoke — a charity event benefiting those in Houston’s culinary and beverage industry affected by hurricane Harvey. The October 22 event will bring in top chefs from around the country, including New Orleans famed John Besh, to deliver show-stopping barbecue. Guests will also enjoy live music and festivities.

After the recent mass shooting, we all have probably experienced a lot of strong emotions. An important point to remember after events like this is that any emotion is valid, there is NO right or wrong way to feel. Common reactions can include having a sense of shock, experiencing sadness, grief, outrage, anger, anxiety and fear, helplessness (especially concern that it can happen anywhere to anyone), numbness, and many other emotions. Adults and children alike can exhibit trouble sleeping, poor appetite (or overeating to soothe themselves), difficulty concentrating, or having trouble with organization and memory.
